The History Behind EL & EL
EL & EL Wood Products has been crafting quality millwork products since 1966 and is a leading supplier of molding and doors in the western United States. The business was originally established by Ben Lynch and Frnak Lindy and is now headquartered in Chino,CA. The company originally wanted to be named “L & L Wood Products” but another business in the area had a similar name so thats how EL & EL came to be. Only a few months after EL & EL opened its doors, Robert Ward joined the business. He eventually bought out the founders in 1967 and passed leadership of EL & EL to his daughter, Cathy Vidas, in 1991.
How does EL & EL set themselves apart from the competition
According to Cathy Vidas, the current president of EL & EL, “There are a few things that set us apart in our market.” A couple of things that pop out right away are the diversity of the product line and the most important in her eyes was the dedication to their service. Vidas explained that it goes way beyond the knowledge about a product they have but also maintaining a large inventory to ensure service.
One great thing that EL & EL Wood Products does is they believe evolving is key. The company loves to stay in tune with trends and new products, while still maintaining all of the classics people still want and love. Vidas says the team’s greatest key performance indicator is the satisfaction of customers, and the crew is onboard to prioritize service and selection.
Taking Chances and Speciality Products to Check Out
EL & EL Wood products was one of the first medium density fiberboard (MDF) importers to focus 100% of its line to ultra light and offshore products. “It was a big risk for us but it turned out to be a home run. Everybody wanted it, it is easy to install, it paints beautifully and the quality is different from anything the U.S. or Canada produces,” Vidas stated. This focus has led to a significant boost in market share over the last two decades. The high quality material allows for significantly more decorative millwork to be affordable to a greater target market.
New products in the molding world are hard to come by but EL & EL is dedicated to maintaining and expanding variety. According to Vidas, “We always have to keep our eyes and ears open to new products and to provide our customers with access to new trends. Our relationships with both our customers and our suppliers are very valuable and important to us always.”
Future plans for the company
EL & EL plans to focus on technological aspects with both warehousing and customers so in real time they can see critical information to help the company grow even further. Some of this information includes inventory levels, invoices, signed receivers and eta’s of the days scheduled deliveries. Growth within the company is apparent with the addition of a 220,000 sq ft. distribution center in Galt, CA servicing the Northern California market.
